Grow, Sell & Eat Local!

The Orofino Farmers Market started in 2009, under the leadership of the University of Idaho extension service, based in Clearwater County. Since then, this popular new community tradition has grown, and is now in it’s third year with more vendors and Market browsers in attendance. The Market operates from 3 to 6 PM, on Tuesdays, at Orofino City Park, for approximately four (4) months. In 2011, opening day is June 14, with the last Market slated tentatively for October 11. The Stottlemyer family of Kooskia, operators of Summerhill Farms and regular vendors at the Market, will continue to offer musical entertainment, specializing in old and new gospel tunes via guitar, fiddle, and harp. Early markets usual center more around crafts, and packaged and prepared foods, such as granola snacks, jams and jellies, and baked goods — including a very wide variety of homemade breads. Plants for yard, garden and nursery are also common. Depending on spring weather conditions, produce also starts appearing slowly over the summer, and by August is the dominant feature of the market, with a wide variety of fruit, berry, and vegetable offerings. 2011 should see more fruit and wild berries, including wild huckleberries, than in years past. More vendors are always welcome.
