Grow, Sell & Eat Local!

The Williamsburg Garden Exchange (WGE) was formed in the 1990s by a group of local gardeners who were seeking something more than just a social club. The "Garden Exchange" received its name from the plant and seed swapping from one another's gardens, borrowing garden magazines and catalogs and exchanging ideas and tips. Through our history the club has expanded our interests to include seasonal plant sales, city improvement projects, garden walks, various educational opportunities for the public and club workshops. In 1999 the Exchange took over the Williamsburg Farmers Market, which was started by the Chamber of Commerce in 1998. The 2011 market marks the 12th year the market has been held. WGE is a non-profit corporation registered with the state of Iowa. Our 2011 officers include Susan Daufeldt, president; Maria Koschmeder, vice president; Jane Wardenburg, secretary; and Mary Thompson, treasurer. The five-member Board of Directors include the officers listed above plus Callie Wetjen Wiebold. We currently meet Tuesday evenings at the Williamsburg Public Library. Meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. We invite anyone interested in gardening or joining our group to attend. To be notified of upcoming meetings, email secretary Jane Wardenburg.
