Grow, Sell & Eat Local!

Long the idea of Jen Sundeen and others in town, the Harvard Farmers’ Market was officially founded in 2007 by Jen, Lisa Frackiewicz and Rochelle Greayer. Many early meetings took place in a local coffee shop while daughters were in dance class. As the market gained momentum, many other volunteers came on board to help. The Farmers’ Market committee made its first public appearance with its prize-winning market cart float for the annual Harvard Fourth of July Parade in 2007. The opening of the market in September of 2007 proved that all the hard work would result in a wildly successful venture. The first few weeks found vendors selling out, returning for more goods and selling out again. Amy Sklar, Jim Cullinan, Sara Beth Tracey and Davida Bagatelle have all joined in to take on larger roles within the group. The first year had 13 full season vendors and proved to be the biggest farmers’ market in Central Massachusetts. In 2008, the market had over 20 full season vendors. This year we hope to encourage more residents of surrounding towns to support our farmers with exciting event weekends and more great music. The Harvard Farmers’ Market is all about supporting our local farmers and businesses, providing good healthy food options for our community and having a good time while we are at it!
