The Downtown Development Commission was initiated by Mayor Elizabeth Baumgartner and the Borough Council in October of 1981, following a study by Projects for Public Space, funded through a Dodge Foundation Grant. The Commission, with the help of merchants, residents, and the non-profit community, underwrites and sponsors several major events each year. University Student Tours of Downtown – University Relations Committee May Day – A town wide beautification, Public Improvement Committee Madison’s Farmers’ Market Committee – Fresh produce weekly July -October Bottle Hill Day – A town-wide festival celebrating our hometown and downtown - 1st Saturday of October
