The City of Rome has a population of 34,950 and is located in Oneida County in the geographic center of New York State. The City of Rome also is home to Rome Catholic School, operated by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse, which offers educational opportunities for children from pre-school through Grade 12. One of two campuses for the New York State School for the Deaf is also located in Rome. The New York State School for the Deaf offers a wide array of opportunities and experiences for children who are deaf or hearing impaired. While many NYSSD students reside in the school’s dormitories; many families also move to the area and their children are transported to and from the school daily. The City of Rome also features a regional campus of Mohawk Valley Community College. This full–service branch campus offers couurses leading to many of MVCC’s more than 100 degree and certificate programs, plus non–credit workshops, seminars, and a range of business/industry training opportunities. The Rome Campus also hosts a growing schedule of cultural and community events. In addition to serving the college needs of many Rome residents, this branch campus also attracts students from Madison and Lewis Counties as well as other areas. The college contains state-of-the-art classrooms, learning laboratories, a fitness center, computer clusters, meeting rooms, library, bookstore, offices, and common areas.
