Grow, Sell & Eat Local!

Market and Penn Street Farmers Market was opened in 1866. Its landmark building is located at the corner of West Market and Penn Streets in downtown York. Listed on the National Historic Register, it is the oldest continuously operating farmers market in York. The Market is owned and run by the vendors, many of whom are third generation and greater. It provides the only source of fresh produce, meats, and other products in the downtown York area west of the Codorus Creek. The Market operates year round and has free offstreet parking every market day. An abundance of fresh locally grown fruits and vegetables are available during the growing season, and fresh locally grown meats and poultry products are offered by local butchers. In addition, there are stands selling prepared foods freshly made with ingredients purchased from other market vendors. Several vendors offer breakfast, lunch, freshly made soups and sandwiches as well as made to order gourmet cupcakes. Wolfgang Candy, a York company, has an outlet in the Market. A large Deli provides all your lunchbox needs. A 'Friends of Historic Farmers Market' association was formed to help keep this local gem vibrant. The website for the Market is www.pennstreetfarmersmarket.com and will keep visitors informed of produce coming into season, special events, recipes, ideas for kids, tips for living "Green" , and much more.
